THE MAN
René-Maurice Gattefossé (1881 - 1950) is the creator of modern aromatherapy, coiner of the name in 1937 when he wrote his book AROMATHERAPIE. Chemical engineer passionate about essential oils, he is considered as the founding father of modern aromatherapy and the undisputable master of the science of essential oils.

A BIT OF HISTORY
On July 25th 1910, René-Maurice Gattefossé was the victim of an explosion in his laboratory which left him severely burnt. He received treatment at the hospital but, despite the cure, the infection spreads out and soon his arm goes gangrenous. He decides to treat the wound himself with the use of purified lavender essential oil that he uses generously as a disinfectant. The condition of his arm improves very quickly and heals without leaving any scare.
